The
MGnet Chat room is an applet that actually connects you to a chat
room in Internet Relay Chat (IRC).
If
you have trouble connecting to our chat through the applet provided,
or if you would like a larger chat room, you can download mIRC and
get to our room through a PhaZenet Server. This is not as hard or
as complicated as it sounds.
IRC
is not located on the World Wide Web, and therefore can not be accessed
through your browser. mIRC is a program that allows you to access
IRC.
We
recommend you print the instructions before you begin. You will need
Acrobat Reader to do this.

Instructions
The
first step is to download mIRC.
Save
this file to a folder you will remember.
ftp://ftp.mircx.com/pub/mirc/mirc59t.exe
When
it finishes downloading go to that folder and click the file mirc59t.exe.
You
have to install mIRC to C:\mIRC. If you have installed it to a different
folder go back and delete it because installing anywhere else than
C:\mIRC will cause you problems.
Now
that you have mIRC installed, follow the instructions you printed
earlier.
MGnet
thanks Allen Tacey for creating these instructions. If you have any
questions or problems, please contact Allen at atacey@mgfa-mgnet.org
The
Mac software programs available are Ircle
and Snak.
Ircle has been around for a very long time and has a good reputation.
Snak is relatively newer, but looks to be easier to install and use.
The "Quickstart" directions on their web site make it seem
very simple. Snak is getting good reviews.
If
you decide to download Snak or Ircle you need to know the following:
Network: PhaZenet
Channel: #mgravis
You will have to 'ADD' the #mgravis room. It will not be listed.
