As of November 2004, MGnet has switched IRC
networks from Efnet to PhaZeNet
for its #MGravis chats.
You may enter the Chat room either:
- Through our chat
page (which uses a Java applet).
- ... OR by using an IRC program like mIRC,
and entering the #MGravis channel (room) in the PhaZeNet IRC
network (the purpose of this page is to explain how you can
do that). If you don't have mIRC yet, you may download it
from a large list
of places.
The PhaZeNet network does not come pre-loaded
in mIRC. So, here are some instructions so you can join the
#MGravis channel (room) in PhaZeNet :
Steps
to join the #MGravis channel in mIRC (version 6.16):
1
- Run mIRC
2
- Go to the "File" menu and choose "Select Server..."
3
- Click on the "Add" button

4
- The "Add Server" dialog box should appear. Fill
it in with the following data:
Description: PhaZeneT Hub
IRC Server: irc.phazenet.com
Port(s): 6667
Group: PhaZeNet
(leave the Password field blank)

5
- Click on the "Add" Button in this "Add Server"
Dialog Box
6
- You should now have a new "IRC Network" available
(PhaZeNet) and a new "IRC Server" (PhaZeNet Hub):

7
- Now, in the same "mIRC Options" dialog box, click
on the Connect category fill in your Nick information, and click
on the OK button. Here is an example for someone called John
Smith using the nick (Nickname) jsmith:

8
- Click on the Icon with the flash picture
to Connect to the PhaZeNet IRC Server.
9
- The following message should appear:
[19:43] * Connecting to irc.phazenet.com (6667)
After a few seconds, you should see lots
of text scrolling by.
10
- If you get a message like this:
[19:46] -NickServ- This nickname is registered
and protected. If it is your
-
[19:46] -NickServ- nick, type /msg NickServ IDENTIFY password.
Otherwise,
-
[19:46] -NickServ- please choose a different nick.
... then, you have chosen a Nick that has
already been registered by someone else. If this is the case,
then please change your Nickname to a new nick.
To change your nickname, check first if your
desired nick is not already taken. Imagine that you were using
the jsmith Nick and got that Nickserv message. You're
thinking about changing your nick to johnsmith. So, check
if the nick johnsmith is already taken by typing the
following command:
/nickserv info johnsmith
If that nick is not registered, the following
response should appear:
[19:50] -NickServ- Nick johnsmith isn't
registered.
If that is the case, then you may change your
nick to the new one, by typing:
/nick johnsmith
(replace johnsmith by your desired nick, of
course)
11
- You may now join the #MGravis channel by typing:
/join #MGravis
